Sailing Through Life, Giving Beyond a Lifetime: Remembering ID and Bobbye Blume

The YMCA of Honolulu is deeply grateful for the generous estate gift left by Irvin "ID" and Bobbye Blume, whose lives reflected adventure, service, lifelong learning, and a strong commitment to community.

Residents of Honolulu from 1972 until their passing in 2022 and 2023, respectively, ID and Bobbye embraced Hawaiʻi as their home and became active members of the community they loved. ID was a successful real estate investor and entrepreneur originally from San Francisco, as well as a proud First Lieutenant in the United States Marines. Bobbye dedicated more than 30 years to education as a private school English teacher in both San Francisco and Honolulu, inspiring generations of students through her love of learning and literature.

Together, the Blumes shared a passion for travel, adventure, and staying active. As avid sailors and boat owners, they sailed around the world multiple times. ID was also an accomplished runner and cyclist who participated in marathons and Ironman competitions throughout Hawaiʻi and California for more than three decades, continuing well into his seventies. Bobbye enjoyed scrapbooking, arts and crafts, and celebrating Hawaiʻi's rich culture through hula and community events.

Both ID and Bobbye valued health, wellness, and connection, which made the YMCA of Honolulu an important part of their lives. They regularly worked out and participated in programs at the Central YMCA on Atkinson Drive, where they found community and friendship. They were also dedicated supporters of the arts and symphony in Honolulu and remained socially and physically active throughout their lives.

Today, ID and Bobbye are laid to rest together at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Through their thoughtful estate gift, their legacy of generosity and community spirit will continue to strengthen the lives of local families, keiki, and kūpuna for generations to come.

Mahalo to the Blume ʻohana for honoring their remarkable lives through this meaningful gift to the YMCA of Honolulu.
